Sir Ivor Jennings: The multifaceted educationist

The 42nd death anniversary of Sir Ivor Jennings, an author of Ceylon constitution and the first Vice Chancellor of Peradeniya University, falls today.

History presents Ceylon under the British yoke as a somewhat gloomy period. The same history, however, shows us the accounts of good-hearted Englishmen who had a great respect towards Ceylon's culture; the likes of John D'Oyly await an academic to go down into their souls.

Ven. Gangodawila Soma Thera -'forthright' one

He was truly a disciple of the Buddha, who had that ability to be 'ujupatipanno' forthright. He was admired even by non-Buddhists for that quality alone. He was posthumously respected with a yellow flag raised in almost every household both Buddhist and non-Buddhist. Venerable Gangodavila Soma thus became a household name in every corner of the society.

40 years as local Charlie Chaplin


Don Guy, the local Charlie Chaplin, marks the 40th anniversary of his comedian career by launching 'Don Simon' VCD on December 16th at 4.00 p.m. in Katubedda de Soyza Cricket Pavilion, Moratuwa, under the patronage of Labour Minister Mervyn Silva and Kalakeerthi Edwin Ariyadasa.
